Dolce & Gabbana X Smeg Refrigerators

Apparently Dolce do fridges now...

We love designer collaborations, the quirkier the better. We’ve seen the likes of Miley Cyrus for Moschino, Jean Paul Gaultier for Coca-Cola and Isaac Mizrahi for Kleenex.

One thing we never quite saw coming was this line of designer refrigerators from Dolce & Gabbana and domestic appliance manufacturers Smeg

Hand painted by Sicilian artists, these fridges reflect the vivid colour and detail that have made D&G the power brand that it is today.

The fridges have medieval scenes and Italian provincial symbols emblazoned on them, and make the perfect addition to a quirky kitchen, or at least a perfect conversation piece for a normal kitchen. (“Well it’s definitely… interesting…”).

Like any luxury collaboration worth its salt, these fridges have a very limited run, with only 100 pieces produced. This is perhaps unsurprising due to its labour-intensive method of production, as well as the fact that there can surely be only a limited demand for medieval Sicilian painted white goods.

Selling at $30,000 however, maybe it’s for the best that we probably won’t be able to get our hands on one. Looks like we’ll all have to learn to live with the sad knowledge that, no matter how good your fridge is at chilling food, it will never be as cool as one of these.
